Harrison Krix has created the ulitmate fan tribute costume. Harrison is a 27 yr old  prop builder and graphic designer  living in Atlanta.  This creation of his is a menacing reproduction of the Big Daddy character from BioShock.  Big Daddy's  are the protectors of the Little Sisters in Rapture.  Rapture is an underwater city in the game, a city which has turned into utter chaos devoid of any morale values. The costume is amazing work of art built with painstaking detail complete with a turning screw illustrated in the 2nd video below.  The costume weighs between 50-60 pounds in case you are wondering so  forget about hitting the clubs in it.  For the record Harrison is not finished with the suit as of yet.   For more details see his blog.

Help us  Celebrate "Talk Like a Pirate Day" which is September 19th.

We are celebrating all weekend by giving away some pirate treasure in the form of a $200.00 gift certificate which  can be redeemed online at www.costumesinc.com

"Talk Like a Pirate Day" was dreamed up in 1995 by John Baur and Mark Summers. Mark and John were playing a game of racquetball and started slinging the pirate slang. The two had so much fun gabbing like pirates they decided that  a national holiday was in order. For seven years the two kept "Talk like a Pirate Day" pretty much to themselves but in 2002 John happened upon an email address for Dave Barry, a Pulitzer prize winning  syndicated columnist.  Email was exchanged between the two and Dave Barry  decided to write a story about the proposed holiday, the rest is history. “Talk Like a Pirate Day” soon become a National Holiday.

So on September 19th don't forget to inject some pirate lingo into your conversations and take a chance at winning some pirate treasure. if you win you might want to outfit yourself in a kick butt pirate costume. Remember matey  that Talk like a Pirate Day is for pirate talking not for dressing up like a pirate. There already is a Dress up Like Pirate Day and that day is Halloween.

Here’s some pirate speak to get you started courtesy of John Baur and Mark Summers, the inventors of Talk Like a Pirate Day.

  • Ahoy! - "Hello!"Avast! - Stop and give attention. It can be used in a sense of surprise, "Whoa! Get a load of that!" which today makes it more of a "Check it out" or "No way!" or "Get off!"

  • Aye! - "Why yes, I agree most heartily with everything you just said or did."

  • Beauty – The best possible pirate address for a woman.

  • Arrr! - This one is often confused with arrrgh, which is of course the sound you make when you sit on a belaying pin.

  • Shiver me timbers - When the wind blows hard on a wooden ship, the timbers literally rattle. This is a cause for surprise and concern ... therefore, "Shiver me timbers" is an expression of surprise.?

  • Hornpipe – Both a single-reeded musical instrument sailors often had aboard ship, and a spirited dance that sailors do.

The Three's Company of Horror, Being Human the series

Horror , TV Shows Costumes , werewolf , Vampire 3 Comments »

Did you hear the one about the vampire, ghost and werewolf?

They are all living under one roof in a little flat outside Bristol on the BBC's Being Human. The show stars Lenora Crichlow as the initially meek and unassertive ghost, Russell Tovey as the unassuming werewolf and Aidan Turner as the vampire. The three are the most unlikely of roommates to share a spot of tea let alone a flat. The series follows their quest to be more human again, to live together, to have some assemblance of a normal life. You know doing stuff like holding a job, having a relationship that sort of thing. The show presents an interesting mix of dramatic moments, comedic relief and generally scary moments such as the werewolf's transformation from human to his wolf incarnate form. It takes some time for the trio to build their confidence and learn to harness the powers of their individual conditions but when it does happen it is fun to watch.

BBC America is currently showing the 1st series and the second series is being filmed now and is scheduled to debut in January of 2010.

There's some amazing video here showing how George is transformed from his human to werewolf form and two prequel videos produced to promote the show.
